Association Membership Lunch -

The Association has invited Michael Geoghegan, who has been the Group Chief Executive of HSBC Holdings since 2006 and is now resident in Hong Kong as the Chairman of The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, to a membership lunch on 30 November 2010.

The link between HSBC and The Hong Kong Association always has been extremely strong and Michael Geoghean will be known to many members. His roles in Hong Kong and within HSBC are highly relevant to most member companies and his talk, which will be followed by an opportunity for questions and discussion, will be of great interest.

Mike Geoghegan joined HSBC in 1973 and has spent 12 years in North and South America, eight years in Asia, seven years in the Middle East and three years in Europe.

The all-in cost of this event will be £66 per head; this will include the pre-lunch reception and a 2 course lunch with wine at your table. No tickets will be issued. Dress will be lounge suits. Member companies are particularly encouraged to bring tables of up to 10. Any staff of member companies can attend.

His Excellency The Chinese Ambassador

The Association’s Christmas lunch will be held on Tuesday 21 December. The Guest of Honour will be His Excellency The Chinese Ambassador, Mr Liu Xiaoming.

The Association enjoys harmonious relations with the Chinese Embassy and is delighted that The Chinese Ambassador has accepted our invitation to be the Guest Speaker at our biggest lunch of the year.

Mr Liu Xiaoming comes originally from Guangdong Province; he studied at Dalian University of Foreign Languages and Tufts University in the USA, and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1974. He has served in Zambia and in the USA, and has been the Chinese Ambassador to Egypt and, most recently, to North Korea. The main focus of his distinguished career has been on North American affairs.

The Ambassador will speak for about 15 minutes and there will then be a chance to ask questions. The all-in cost of this event will be £66 per head; this will include the pre-lunch reception and a 2 course lunch with wine at your table. No tickets will be issued. Dress will be lounge suits.

Mr Tony Tyler, Chief Executive of Cathay Pacific Airways, has accepted invitation to be the Guest of Honour at the Hong Kong Society Autumn Dinner on 21 September 2010. Members of The Hong Kong Association are very welcome to join the evening, either in company groups or as individuals.

Many members have good reason for hearing how Cathay Pacific is competing with the current pressures. Mr Tyler will be able to give a prognosis for the future and an update on the current commercial situation in Hong Kong, China and the region.

Tony Tyler joined John Swire & Sons in 1977 and moved to Cathay Pacific in 1978. He became Chief Executive of the airline in July 2007. He is also Chairman of Hong Kong Dragon Airlines Ltd and a Director of John Swire & Sons (H.K.) Ltd and Swire Pacific Ltd. He is a graduate of Oxford University.

This dinner is being held at the Zen China Restaurant, County Hall. The restaurant has a fine terrace overlooking the Thames and, if weather permits, the cash bar, which will open at 6.30pm, will be there. County Hall is a big complex and a map will be sent to all those attending. It is within easy walking distance of Waterloo Station.

The cost will be £46 per head; this will include a 3 course dinner with half a bottle of wine each at your table. No tickets will be issued. Dress will be lounge suits.
